14 Plus Size Coats for Fall

We have reached one of my most favorite times of the year- Fall. With fall comes the drama, the layers, the richness of fabrics- I love me some fur and cashmere!

After sharing with you some of my favorites in my fall wishlist, covering some of fall’s hottest trends in plus size sequins, plus size leather, animal prints and bold colors for the curvy fashionistas, today we talk about the icing on the cake- Coats. Oftentimes quite a difficult find, each season though, designers and retailers push the envelope in fashioning style, fit, AND function for us and today I have rounded up some of my favorite coats that have given me pause or have inspired me in one way or another!

Fall 2011 Plus Size Trend Spotlight- Lusting for Leather

I love me some leather- whatever your pleasure (faux or real), fall’s latest trend has me so excited and adding items to my Fall Wishlist immediately…. I have lusted after Sequins, shared the love for Animal Print, but today, we talk LEATHER.

Finding designers and retailers who fashion leather BEYOND the leather jacket has been a task, BUT there are quite a few options! Even some of my favorite tweeps (@_franceta) snatched up pieces that had me salivating and tempted to make my purchases immediately!

No Seriously!

Skirts, Dresses, Leggings, Jackets, Vests, and even Shorts (Adina Howard anyone?), Leather has come back for the fall with a chic edge, sophistication, and playfulness that is sure to satisfy your fashion palette!

Shopping Hints and Tips:

A leather pencil skirt is always a great place to start if leather is too bold for you!
Monochromatic hues adds a fashion forward sophistication
Leather comes in a variety of colors, but for fall dark jewel tones adds depth and intrigue to your wardrobe!
Opaque tights are amazing and a great way to rock a leather mini or short in the fall!
Fit is always a tricky thing here, as it is quite visible, especially in pleather or any faux leather variation, so make sure you get the right fit!

Plus Size Fall 2011 Trends Spotlight: Animal Prints

Summer’s love of Jungle Fever has fashionably trickled into fall, but this time with a sharp sophistication and playful edge- for both the demure and cutting edge fashionistas. For the plus size woman, this trend does not escape us!

In fashioning my Fall Wishlist, I found quite a few animal printed frocks that gave me pause. Happily. From fur details down to the tip of some snakeskin or fish scaled heels; fall has married the animal print- Zebra, leopard, Snakeskin and all in between and in OUR sizes!

Jackets, vest, dresses, skirts, and pants- and let us NOT forget the accessories! Scarves, shoes, and handbags? Yes, yes, and YES!

Any print you chose will draw attention to your curves- so if you LOVE a particular body part and want to emphasize it, choose your animal print and place it there!
I cannot stress this enough, FIT is key! An ill fitting fabulous garment will only take away from your fabulous look and draw attention to the construction!
Do not be afraid of prints! If you are afraid of a bold animal print, do the baby steps with accessories, then to a blouse, then a jacket to a dress! See? With baby steps you can do it!

Plus Size Fall 2011 Trend Spotlight: Bold Color Lines

Last week I shared with you one of my favorite fall trends for the plus size woman- Sequins! Another trend from my Fall Wishlist, and one that is only going to go more hardcore, is the intense use of color for fall! Blues, Oranges, Yellows, purples, color blocked or worn alone as a statement, the choice is yours to put your best curve forward- Live in color!

Usually muted or toned down, fall 2011 brings the drama and flair in intense jewel tones, contrasted hues, striking tones- and I love it! From playful blouses, skirts, pants, dresses, and accessories, you are sure to find a fun piece to fall into fall’s latest and most accessible trend!

How I love that the plus size designers and retailers are taking note to deliver the Curvy Fashionista looks and outfits that are timely and on trend! For fall, YOU have the choice of color blocking, a focal tone or hue, and a fun play in geometric shapes, or head to toe drama!

Whichever your fashionable pleasure, there are a few tips when playing with bold color lines!

For the love of Color blocking, the bold and fearless can incorporate contrasting hues. For fall, a lot of pieces, especially dresses already provide this for you!
Fit will always be a tip with these trends! Whichever or wherever you bring your bold hue to, make sure the fit of your item fits perfectly as this will be the focus of your outfit!
Think outside your traditional box- (this applies to me to!) If you are so used to wear a bold top, opt for a fun pop of color on your bottom half! From a skirt to the playful trousers- YOU can push your own envelope!

Plus Size Fall 2011 Trend Spotlight: Sequins

Last week, I created my Fall Wishlist, in which quite a few pieces featured fashions of the sequins flavor. Sparkle and shine is the name of the game for fall- as fall oftentimes brings out the decadence and drama!

For the plus size woman, finding these sequins pieces is much easier than season past, as designers are delivering looks on time AND on trend! Seriously! It is getting better! However, to further illustrate what I mean, at Full Figured Fashion Week, there were many designers that fashioned head to toe sequins options AND now, there are quite a few options in store!

Look at those sequins wide leg trousers and this dress from Curvysta!

Depending on your personality and mood- sequins can play a role in your day to day wear and also take you far into the night with some definite show stoppers! You will find the sequins trend in scarves, dresses, tops, leggings, shoes, and handbags! No item is left un-sequined!

The level of quality for your garment is key here. Sequins and its application, if done correctly, should not fray or unravel after the first wear.
When you make your purchase, make sure you look for backup sequins.
Check your garment to make sure there are no loose threads, and your sequins item should not pull or buckle- basically fit is crucial.

I love me some fall. Seriously.

Drama. Attitude. Rebirth. Decadence.

Seriously, I have a serious love for fall and before I start sharing with you my fashion buys for the month of September, I have to share with you first, the items from the trends that are giving me serious pause! Oh, and also, I covered the Fall Trends A-Z on Plus Model Magazine’s September Issue- so do not forget to check that out as well!

One of my most favorite seasons! Not too hot (except those Indian Summer in SF) and not too cold, Fall offers up to me, the best of the best in boho luxe options! Other ones as well, but for me, this season’s trend are right up my alley!

5 Must Try Trends from Paris Couture Fashion Week

Oh J’adore la mode, what I wouldn’t give to go to Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. Although the Dior show was quite a disappointment for some without John Galliano, I managed to scope out several trends that I must try. PFW is all about concepts and fantasies – dream with me if you will:

THE SUPER MAXI – This dress reminds me of your staple DVF wrap dress. The maxi is simple enough that it can be converted into chic, tomboy, elegant, or the urban look by just adding one piece. My favorite maxi dress companions are a fitted blazer and a statement necklace. Not to mention this dress will give any woman tons of height.

HEAD PIECES AND VELVET - June Ambrose has been a champion of turbans and fancy head pieces. The Armani Prive runway show placed a gorgeous head piece on every model to compliment the velvet high waisted pant.

THE SIDE SLIT – Showing this much leg is bound to get you a date or set your current boo into a frenzy for sure. To give your curves the ultimate shine, pair the dress with Spanx sheer control top panty hose.

LACE SHEER AND OTHER SPARKLY THINGS – Anytime I am looking for a dazzling girly inspiration I look to Elie Saab – the master of the red carpet dress. This runway was filled with feminity, gorgeous Swarovski crystals, lace and sequined gowns. A perfect gown for the unconventional bride – I think I’m wearing the chocolate gown on my special day.

Now if we can convince the designers to make larger sizes the world would be a happier place. Any fall trends you’re dying to try – do tell!
