Around Town: From MAGICLV to The NYDJ Spring Preview

In February, I was invited to MAGICLV to check out and cover the fashions coming to us for fall. While there, I made my way to the NYDJ booth and was pleasantly and excitedly surprised. See, I learned that Not Your Daughter’s Jeans was expanding their plus size range to include the fabulous bold hues, fashion cuts and prints we are seeing everywhere for spring into fall!! I even included NYDJ in my latest trend report of Bold Colored Denim!

Colored Cords, waxed denim, snakeskin prints… all in plus sizes!

While there, I met their PR who invited me to the Spring Preview to get up close and personal with their line and I happily accepted!

Last week, I headed out to LA to the Sunset Towers to the suite that NYDJ decked out with denim and edible delights! Catching up with Tulin from Plus Model Magazine, Romy of Romy Raves, Jennifer Chan, and LA Fashion Snob was a lovely delight as well!

Once there, we met the head designer (who once upon a time worked for Lane Bryant) who spoke to the shape, trends, and the NYDJ Customer! She knew that the plus size woman wanted fashion AND fit at a great price.

Showing us the latest cuts and fits for spring, the try on session commenced. I fell in love with the Tori Sailor Jean and the cream snakeskin print denim! Interestingly enough, I could play in a few sizes because of the stretch and the shape of the denim. Being a size 16/18-ish, I can waiver between their straight sized 16 and 18 and into the 16W- depending on the cut!

I cannot wait for all of the New Arrivals to hit the NYDJ Plus Size Section on their site! And then we met Betsey Johnson at MagicLV

As I had shared in previous posts, I was invited my Magic as one of the bloggers to cover and share all that is fashion at MAGIC! While I am still recouping and recapping the week’s events from my whirlwind week, one of the funnest highlights I had to share with you!

Myself, along with the other bloggers who were invited to Las Vegas, got to meet the effervescent and vivacious Betsey Johnson! I mean, not only were we excited, but so was half of MAGIC.

Stans came out in full support of Betsey Johnson, as evidenced here:

And who could blame them? Miss Betsey Johnson is fierce I tell you. Fierce, with a capital F. Known for her signature Cartwheels, Betsey Johnson arrived in high style! One thing I realized, she is a petite little thing! Hahaha.

Once she arrived, Miss Betsey greeted the crowd to share the launch of her newest diffusion line:

We had the chance to take a few pics with her and even while waiting for our pics, Kristen, from Glitter and Glue asked her what her first DIY was! She couldn’t remember, but nonetheless she was quite engaging and amazing!

MAGICLV from a Plus Size Perspective: Johnny Was

As a woman with a penchant for boho laid back, yet polished look, Johnny Was has long been a favorite of mines. Especially as Johnny Was is one of the contemporary brands that fashions itself in plus size at Bloomingdales and Nordstrom, and after heading to MAGIC LV, I have fun news to share!

I must say, when I happened upon the booth, I was elated BEYOND. JUST the fact that Johnny Was has decided to expand its collection is fly enough for me!!! And the Plus Size Collection is already online! Washable silk? YES.

I was like a kid in a candy store wanting to see all, touch all, and wear all the goodies, even finding a new found favorite from the collection, this tunic below had my attention!

OOTD: Day One #MAGICLV at the Teen Vogue Blogger Lounge

I have survived the magic of MAGIC Las Vegas! Being that it has also been a while since I posted an outfit, I thought that one would be befitting!

As I had shared, MAGIC Las Vegas had invited me to cover, share plus size fashion insights, and shine a light on the fashions found- and that I did! My home base was the Teen vogue Blogger Lounge, located in Central Hall!

The challenge to MAGIC was creating outfits around the shoes. 1 million square feet?

Um, flats please! Comfy flats STAT!

So for day one, I went with a dress I scored from the Rachel Pally Sample Sale event I went to on press night! Paired with my ankle booties (which you cannot see), a bracelet and ring from my H&M excursion, a Glitterings ring, my earrings from BEBE- I was relaxed, comfy and feeling quite boho chic! Hahahaha! I was feeling just a little bold and fancy in this dress and with this print.

Getting ready for MAGICLV- Tips for Survival

So, this spring I am not attending NYFW, but rather I am headed to Las Vegas to attend another mega fashion event: MAGIC! Last August, I attended my very first MAGIC Tradeshow and let me tell you I had a blast, but I wasn’t ready! I thought I was- but no.

Each season over 5,000 brands descend to Las Vegas for MAGIC, a fashion tradeshow uniting the largest and most influential network of buyers, brands, media and decision makers via innovative initiatives, exclusive access to cutting-edge information and conveniently merchandised show areas that I am a fan of: WWDMAGIC, FN PLATFORM, POOLTRADESHOW, PROJECT and SOURCING at MAGIC.

Seriously, it is amazing and overwhelming all at the same time, but if you are not prepared, MAGIC can kick your tail! So, as I get ready to head out to MAGIC, I through I would share with you some tips and tricks to make it through MAGIC Successfully!

Tips to Make it Through MAGIC Fashionably and Sanely

·Wear shoes MADE for walking.Please note, not all flats are made for walking. I paid the price last season as I thought I could sashay through the 1,000,000 square footage convention halls… Um, my feet had me paying the price through the rest of my trip.
·Bring your chargers.As you are snapping photos, tweeting, updating your blog, these things can drain your battery quite fast and you will have to have moments where you can recharge and relax your feet. Thank God, for the Blogger Lounges I was a part of last season, or my poor overworked phone would have died ten thousand deaths!
·Bring a great carryall bag.Trying to carry your purse, iPad, Tablet, notebooks, and merchandise from and about all the brands you have can get quite overwhelming if you are not ready. Please note, your bag should be made for carrying vast amounts of weight and hopefully has the ability to stay organized. I was so grateful for my MZ Wallace bag- this saved my hands and arms!
·Get your Coffee fix EARLY.If you think leaving your hotel room with 15 mins to spare to get in and out at the coffee spot will work? You my dear, are so WRONG! These lines were everywhere! My poor caffeine addicted self was in a flurry trying to think I could speed through and just grab a cup of joe. Please, plan accordingly… Give yourself at least 30 mins just for coffee.
·Snack Attack.I ran myself to the floor being so overwhelmed without snacking or eating well throughout my time at MAGIC, please do not do the same mistake as I! Bring little energy bars, snacks, or whatever will give you energy throughout the day! Before you know it, it is 6pm and you realized you only had a slice of pizza all day. There are many places to get your eat on and I highly advise you take full advantage!

Last Fall, I was invited to MAGIC and had a blast and a half! This spring, I will be headed back to MAGIC to check out what is new for fall, interview the creative designers, sit on a few panels, and identify and share the trends of the Fall ’12 season! (more details about this soon!)

To say that I am excited is an understatement! This February, (the 13^th-15^th) WWD MAGIC has stepped up their game, introduced some newness and interest that will be quite exciting!

A Vintage Chanel installation, Spanish Art, a renowned fashion designer, and just a few runway shows to be exact! Over the course of these three days, buyers, designers, brands, bloggers, media, and celebrities gather to talk shop- literally!

Asides from the the Daily Fashion Shows, with Fall’s hottest trends, with over 60 looks per show, everyday at 1:00pm, here are a few of the highlights for WWD MAGIC:

·Betsey Johnson!!! She will make a personal appearance on Tuesday, February 14th from 1pm to 4pm.
·The Concourse: An uber-chic collective of interactive exhibits that will be the home base for some of the industry’s hippest fashion bloggers. (I will be there!)
·The Buzz Boutique: Here a bevy of technology and social media partners that are uniquely involved in the business of fashion will be present.
·Artist J. Pierce: He will be creating and painting a 16-foot mural on the show floor during the 3-days of MAGIC.
·The ‘Dreaming of Chanel’ Installation & Book Signing: Author Charlotte Smith will sign copies of her latest book “Dreaming of Chanel” in conjunction with a ‘Then & Now’ concept installation featuring 16 vintage Chanel dresses.
·Prêt à Porter Paris, Heart of Prêt: Returns and has more than doubled in size and will present more than 30 top French and European designers making their way into the U.S. market. To celebrate, WWDMAGIC will host an opening night reception to welcome all of the designers and brands that have made the journey. Brands include, 2026 Paris, Aventures Des Toiles, Chacook, Fred Sabatier, Lauren Vidal, Pause Café, Rizal, Mado and more.
·Almeriane: Relish culture with Spanish Artist who has an amazing art-to-wear line named after the famed Spanish artist, Almeriane. They will be at WWD MAGIC all week painting the amazing colors found in the Almeriane line of sweaters, scarves, knit tops and dresses.

Project LV: First and Forever- Your Docs have grown up

Maybe its because I am a child of the 80’s raised in the 90’s and my first encounter with Dr Martens reminds me of plaids and leathers, but while I was at Magic and fancied over to PROJECT and when I saw the newness I was taken aback!

I mean…

Imagine my surprise when I saw the fabulous Agyness Deyn on Doc Marten’s new campaign, #FirstandForever look books, a new contemporary look of Dr Martens, Boots I’d happily slip my heels into- I mean whoa! The First and Forever Campaign pulls and tugs on your memories of your first pair of Dr Martens and brings your favorites- all grown up!

Without even telling you how cool of a place Project is- more on this later, one of the first booths I made my way to was the Dr Martens (lovingly remembered as my Docs) booth! Taken completely by surprise about the laid back and chic vibe of the new Dr Martens, I had to snap away! While here, I asked about their latest campaign (as I heard about it before I made my way to MAGIC) I learned about the campaign, the new looks, and the modern twist on a cult classic!

Seriously!

Do you remember Dr.Martens? Where were you when you first saw them? I think I am at that age where Clueless pops into mind as well! LOL I think I am getting… seasoned…
