Behind the Scenes at Tadashi Shoji Fall 2011

Before Tadashi Shoji sashayed angelically dressed models down his Fall 2011 runway, he collaborated with Luc Bouchard and Rodney Cutler from both MAC and Cutlet/Redken Salons, respectively to bring his Fall 2011 vision into fruition.

Backstage at Tadashi Shoji, minimal elegance and a soft appeal were the focus for the look desired by Tadashi Shoji, and we had a chance to chat with the lead stylists who helped craft the beautiful array of fashion that traipsed down the runway.

MAKEUP: Luc Bouchard for MAC Cosmetics

Luc Brochard took Shoji’s inspiration of an Angelic woman and together with MAC cosmetics, delivered an elegant and minimalistic look for the models. The very natural look was achieved with Match Master- a new foundation to launch in September of 2011. For the eyes, MAC Moleskin, a new color launching in the MAC Me Over Collection, was applied to the lids. For the lips and blush, Bouchard uses a new formulation with current colors. Limited Edition Skin Finish Mineralized Powder was then applied as a highlighter on key places on the face- the bridge of the nose, the cupid’s bow and on the outer corners of the eyes to enhance the angelic look desired.

HAIR: Rodney Cutler for Cutler / Redken Salons

Rodney Cutler took Tadashi Shoji’s inspiration and together they collaborated with a silky straight hairstyle with a low side part.

NYFW Beauty: Stila for Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2011

Lead Stylist for Stila Cosmetics, Sarah Lucero channeled the Urban Gypsy with a twist of edgy bohemian for the Fall 2011 collection of Rebecca Minkoff for NYFW. Stila created a strong eye and soft lip look to compliment thee collection. The look is a fun mix on textures – just like the clothes on the runway.

I love this look, the relaxed, laid back, especially as they channel the boho luxe feel of things like I love! You KNOW ME! LOL… Is this a look you would rock? I am very intrigued by the tinted moisturizer and I may have to check it out and test it! (they have shades for me!!!)

NYFW Christian Siriano Fall 2010- Hair and Beauty

Before the glitz and glam that parades down the catwalk, designers come to the drawing board with distinguished hair and make-up teams to create the vision we see walk down the runway. I had the pleasure of going behind the scenes to catch the up close and personal look of how these fabulous beauty looks were created!

For Fall 2011, Christian Siriano’s vision was created with the help of MAC and Aveda. Below we talk to the lead and key artists for their inspirations for the runway, from natural beauty to black orchids.

MAC’s Beauty inspiration:

Polly Osmond for MAC was inspired by “Gorgeous and Simple beauty” and “Minimal Beauty,” MAC went for a natural beauty- highlighting the model’s natural beauty with an emphasis on the eyebrow. Mauves, Gloss eyelids, and a matte stained lip defined the look for the runway.

The AVEDA direction:

Aveda’s Creative Director, Antoinette Beenders takes her inspiration, Black Orchids and shares she came to the look for the hair for Christian Siriano. Taken from the petal of the Orchid, Beenders takes sleek braids, set with the Aveda Control Spray, then flatiron for texture, and then finger combed to deliver a “Smooth with a little bit of texture” look to enhance Siriano’s fall collection.Popular Posts:

A nod to the 90’s with Vena Cava was only complete with the help of hair guru, Ted Gibson, for Beauty.com and an innovative use of nail polish- Nonie Crème for butterLONDON.

Hair:

Channeling Christy Turlington’s 90’s grunge look, Ted Gibson created a laid back cool look to complete Vena Cava’s Fall 2011 Collection. To achieve this look, Ted Gibson dampened the hair with product and scrunched to create a carefree and casual appearance.

The Nails:

Thinking outside the box, Nonie Crème crafted “Finger Bands” for the Fall 2011 Vena Cava show. Nails left bare yet the fingers were painted with small colorful stripes to create a look that was out-of-the-box thinking that created the perfect 90’s grunge look!

When I say that he KNOWS the anatomy of a woman’s curve, literally- he does! Proven to be a dedicated scholar of his craft, Carmen Marc Valvo emerged as a designer form a family who studied and performed in the medical field! With plans on going into plastic surgery, a few rounds in the ER quickly chartered a new path for Carmen Marc Valvo to take his love of architecture, the female form, and fashion to master the fine art of cutting and draping fabric to enhance the female physique!

During New York Fashion Week, Carmen Marc Valvo opened his doors to ME!!!! With a private showing of his Fall 2011 collection, I was a ball of nerves and excitement to meet the talented designer and creator of these amazing dresses I oft have touched but have never had the chance or place to wear!

The moment I stepped into his showroom in the heart of the fashion district, I felt I was in dress heaven! On the heels of his runway show- the night before, I KNEW he had to be exhausted! However! I knew it was a match made in fashion heaven, when he blew into the showroom with coffee on the mind in a TAZ cup! (I was geeked as I love TAZ too!!!! And my undying love for coffee- YES)

Adding to his ever growing portfolio, Carmen Marc Valvo’s range includes bridal, ready to wear, swimwear, home, and most recently…. Author! As we chatted, laughed, and told jokes (he honestly Is such an amazing man!!!!), he shared with me his newest project- the launch of his new book- The Art of Dressing!

The Art of Dressing is both a fashion how to and coffee table book with tips for dressing according to age and occasion, thoughts on silhouettes and hemlines, advice on styling and accessorizing and on how to perfect an unforgettable look! In addition, The Art of Dressing inspires women to live their ultimate red-carpet moment, whether that means looking fabulous for a summer afternoon party, a glamorous cocktail soiree, or a black-tie event!

As a recent Prostate Cancer survivor, The Art of Dressing also serves as a tool to help raise awareness and a cure for colon cancer!

With inspiration taken from the fashion icons of the 40′s 50’s and 60′s, Rosa Pushér’s second collection kept it chic with figure flattering cuts and sumptuous fabrics. For the sophisticated working women, chic socialites, and discerning divas, Rosa Pusher’s collection offers a classic ease of day to night wearability.

NYFW Evolving Influence Conference by IFB

On Thursday, February 10, and Friday, February 11, 2011 The ever-so-fabulous Jenine, founder of The Coveted and The Independent Fashion Bloggers hosted a delightful conference for and by the fashion blogger. I was sooo sad I missed it (due to shoot days)- HOWEVER… I had to share with you the on goings of this fabulous event.

Why you should have been there:

In a fabulous partnership with MAC & Milk Studios, Gucci, Shopbop.com, Aldo, Juicy Couture, ICED Media, Microsoft, Levi’s Shape What’s to Come and Lookbooks.com, IFB hosted an official two-day event: Evolving Influence Fashion Bloggers Conference. This conference was a MUST ATTEND for bloggers and on line marketers seeking ways to break out of the blogosphere noise.

Keynote speakers included Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler! In addition to these amazing speakers, informative, insightful, and inspirational workshops at Le Bain in the Standard Hotel were home to over 300 fashion bloggers.
