NYFW Backstage with Levi’s Global Collection Fall 2012

I arrived to the Levi’s backstage area a little early so the chaos had not even begun. Models were still munching on the snacks. I even had a few muffins myself. I chatted a bit with the lead makeup artist and hair stylist about the looks they were creating.

BEAUTY: Sarah from Stila Cosmetics provided the classic yet modern looks for Levi’s. The Levi’s collection included lots of vintage pieces so the makeup reflected a very youthful and ageless feel. Stila’s One Step Illuminate was used on every model (including the male models). The skin was prepped with a very natural beauty balm to erase some of the redness and blemishes. The eyes were kept very matte and warm to match the blue denim, and the coffee colored vintage inspired hats. To add more fabulousness the makeup on the brows were shaded for a deep strong Sharon Stone look.

Sarah’s Spring Makeup Tips: COLORS! Think of PopArt. Wear it like you mean it. Choose one feature and go bold but subtle. Use pink violets, teals and fuchsia for your eyes but keep the cheeks sunkiss bronzey and lips nude. Don’t try to mix too many combos — keep it balanced.

Emilio Cavallini was a pleasant presentation, it was captivating and unique, and a first time experience for me, as I think many other editors, bloggers, and press. Emilio Cavallini is a legwear designer. The show gave off an elegant mood which I imagine can be very tricky, considering we, as viewers, we basically peeping toms while these beautiful women got dressed and switched their layering to present a new leg wear design and pattern. — Assunta Catalano/Iconography Magazine

NYFW Backstage with VPL by Victoria Bartlett Fall 2012

Victoria Bartlett’s new fall collection was inspired by the beautiful soft lines of a dance called Mmm by Michael Clark. The show was titled Manipulate. I got a chance to get backstage and get a sneak peek at the hair and makeup looks. It was definitely some sort of organized chaos for sure. At times there were three and four people working on the model’s hair all while someone was polishing her nails and applying lip. Since the models were getting a very clean fresh look they all received facials first. Oh, the life of a model.

HAIR: Very geometric but with fluid moment. Each model was given a side or center part to individualize each look. An Amika flatiron was used for the geometrically look. Additional product was used for a glassy finish (not glossy!).

Beauty: OCC products were used to give a very neutral look. No brushes were used, the makeup artists used their fingers to apply the blush and shadow. Liner was applied to the eyes for a slick finish.

The scene backstage was tight but organized. I managed to get a few shots just so you guys could see what really happens backstage. It’s all work baby! I can’t even describe it.. have a look for yourself.

NYFW: Diet Pepsi Style Studio

It’s that time of year again where all the fashion bloggers, editors, and even socialites gather under the tents (and outside sometimes) to gaze at the new collections for the fall. Last night, while Marie was having a blast in warm weather over in Vegas, I attended the Diet Pepsi Style Studio. The event celebrated 4 up and coming designers hand picked by mega creative director Simon Doonan. We all piled into what we resident fashion weekers call the party room aka the Box.

On most days the Box is the location for presentations. Models standing/posing for about an hour as we look at the collection. Not for the Diet Pepsi Style Studio. Once I had my first glass of champagne I realized I was in for a treat (at least 10 minutes worth). Simon hosted a mini fashion show of the designers he selected. A few celebrities attended inculding actresses Debra Messing and Kelly Rutherford, and my favorite social diva, Angela Simmons. I even spotted my blogger pal Micah Jesse conducting the interviews.

I was able to hold my camera phone up for about 5 minutes before that task became daunting. Check out a clip from the fashion show. (kudos to Baltimore House music for making it all the way to NY)

NYFW: Tolla Cole Spring/Summer 2012

Atoia Scott created a brand new line of clothing that evokes the feeling of Ibiza and tropical environs all over the world. The debut season of Scott’s line, Tolla Cole, was held during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at the Waterhouse and Dodd Fine Art Gallery in SoHo, New York. TollaCole aims to present a modern elegance in it’s Spring/Summer 2012 NYFW.

The collection is composed exclusively of evening gowns reminiscent of the dwellings of Isla de Ferradura in Ibiza

With endless yards of colorful chiffon and trendy chic silhouettes, the collection embodies all things feminine. Not only did the dresses evoke island and tropical but each dress was styled with She’Luxe Couture feather accessories. Between the Peacock and Fuchsia feathers I could hear the tropical birds calling my name.

In speaking with Atoia Scott about sizing, which I am always interested in finding out about, currently the line spans up to a 12 but individual pieces can be specially made to any size.

My personal favorite was the yellow tea length dress with black accents on the bust. Unfortunately, the bust would not hold my “girls” in but I can see a more athletic type wearing it in style.

Inside the Chic Week Robert Verdi Lounge for NYFW

One of the lounges I hear and read about each fashion week is the Chic Week Robert Verdi Lounge by Luxe Laboratory. So when Kimmie Smith from The Kitten Lounge invited me to take a peek at her collaboration with Sebago at the Robert Verdi Lounge, I was elated! See, Kimmie was invited to create the Kimmie Smith x Sebago Fall 11/Cruise Collection and I had to take a peek! I love seeing fellow bloggers chasing their dreams with amazing opportunities and I was honored to come and support her!

I loved the teal blue/green-ish ones!

After I had the pleasure of finally meeting her in person, I was invited to look around and meet the other brands showcasing at the Robert Verdi Lounge! Without hesitation, I jumped at the Hanes booth! Something is up with Hanes, let me tell you! Their hosiery for fall? Yes. And double yes with the thigh high opaques! They fit MY THIGH! Asides from the intense hues and textures, Hanes hosiery is really doing its thing with providing some amazing fashionable options for fall (MORE to come on this soon!).

After meeting Hanes, I made my way across the room to check out Jewelista! A new site for the discerning jewelry connoisseur, what intrigued me about Jewelista was their philosophy and impetus! Giving indie designers a platform to present their collections to a wider audience, Jewelista invests in these designers by purchasing their collections (not on consignment!) and presenting US one-of-a-kind jewels and accessories that speak to our fashionable desires!

The next spot I HAD to make a pit stop to was Band-Aid. But this was not the regular band-aid pit stop; this was the Cynthia Rowley for Band-Aid pit stop! I had heard of this collaboration when it first launched, and due to popularity and excitement, they brought back the collaboration and eagerly I quickly fashioned a band-aid ring to show my support and excitement! What made my day even brighter was the Emergency Kit that was given to me! OMG!

Next, I checked inside the other room and found Incoco! Now if you remember my experience with Sally hansen’s Polish strips, then you will love these puppies! Meet Incoco! What I found out was that they were the brand who created these strips for Sally Hansen! Heeeyyy! So quickly I got my nails fashioned up in a hot pink and black number!

While in this room, I watched Remington do some magic with their latest project, the Ultimate Stylist! Now, after chatting with the ladies, they gave me one of these cool new tools and gave me the coolest challenge- to straighten my hair with this number! And guess what? Challenge accepted!

Maybelline was also present in the room! (the next day I came back with Stylemom for a needed touchup!) Nicely, they packaged up look from the runway and gave me a foundation from their latest collection! More on my Maybelline experience, coming up!

On an almost forgotten note! While in the Robert Verdi Lounge, I had the most DIVINE Cookie! Ohhhh! Like melt in your mouth cookie! So I had to find out more about this maker of the cookie. Come to find out, the makers were a new food delivery service called Fresh Diet (Diet as in lifestyle- not Weight Watchers or anything!) I met one of the owners and she shared with me how amazing the Fresh Diet program was! Imagine having fresh meals for the day delivered to your home every morning?

Um… a busy lady, like myself, needs this as I oftentimes forget to eat! (I KNOW). Anyways, after snacking on a shrimp salad, amazing cookies, and other delectables, I have decided to give this a shot! Thanks to the woman whom I spoke with, I have a free week trial! SO we shall see how this goes!

Over all! The Chic Week Robert Verdi Lounge was quite the needed stop as I had the chance to chat with and meet brands to help keep us Curvy.Confident.Chic! WOOT!

How about this for technology? Norma Kamali was the first designer to launch an e-commerce site, use QR codes for in store shopping, and deliver exclusive Facebook promotions! How does she top herself? Introduce and leverage 3D technology.

As one of the designers who has embraced plus size fashion and whose reputation precedes her, Norma Kamali’s spring 2012 collection was a definite delight! How did Norma Kamali outdo herself? Well, Norman Kamali presented her spring 2012 collection via 3D technology!

Forgoing the traditional runway or installation, Norma Kamali featured her 67 looks via an eight minute 3D fashion film! Upon entrance, guests were given custom designed anaglyphic cat-eye glazes to view the presentation as well as peruse the video shopping pages on laptops in the David Rubenstein Atrium.
