My trip to the Avenue- MY experience

You know how you pass a store over and over again, you think that you know what’s in there… only to be quite surprised when you go in?

My shopping experience at the Avenue

That was my experience this day when I visited the Avenue. I have known for the longest that the Avenue catered to plus size women, but I have always found their pieces to be too conservative for my liking (I kept telling myself), only to walk out of the store today with over $250 worth of merchandise (paid $175 due to a crazy sale!).

First impression?

Eh. Treasures to be found, if you have the time and patience to really look through and imagine your outfits.

I thought that the sales associates could have been more helpful. Honestly! And this is really hard for me to understand, with my 13 years in retail experience… So please excuse my irritation for the lack of help here, as I expect more when I go into an almost empty store… I am just saying…

SO!

I was greeted from the back of the store as I walked in- could not see the associate who said hello… weird. I dug through the seamless panties and bras, searching for my size for about a good 15 minutes- still with no assistance- although with most of my work done, I was in no real rush to get in and out.

I made my way through the jewelry (my real mission) and was finally approached by the sales associate (who spent most of her time near the register or doing work tasks) who asked me if I’d be shopping with my Avenue card and she also alerted me that a specific section of the jewels were on sale for like $3.96 or some random price like that.

My shopping experience at the AvenueI scooped up a handful of bracelets large enough for my big ole hands! (gotta get ready for Full Figured Fashion Week™!  Walking across the store with a handful of jewelry, I made my way over to the shoes… pleasantly surprised with the selection! Cloud Walkers (I think this is their in house brand!) comes in all wide width selections!

I got these three shoes:

Avenue Maria Caged Gladiator Sandal

Avenue Maria Caged Gladiator Sandal (Wide Width)

Avenue Zenada Snake Emboss Wedge Sandal (Wide Width)

Avenue Zenada Snake Emboss Wedge Sandal (Wide Width)

Avenue Kelly Knotted Sandal in the Berry Color

Avenue Kelly Knotted Sandal (Wide Width)

While trying on shoes and pulling my sizes, I walked over to the sales associate at the register and asked her if all their sizes were out… SO SAD! I really wanted the Yvonne Embellished Wedge Sandal but no more were left in the black in my size!!!

After trying on the shoes, or while I was trying on the shoes (about 45 minutes into my shopping), I was made aware that the entire store was on sale! When you buy three or more items, you save 30% off your purchase! I already had that in the bag, so I perused the store to sniff out any other deals! I headed back over to the lingerie section- as a girl can NEVER have too many bras and panties! Seamless Boy Shorts? Yes please! A tan strapless bra and tuxedo plunge bra- YES! Although it did take me a while to find my size!

I did find some tops and a HUGE clearance section… I think I was overwhelmed and the merchandising could have been a bit more alluring, as I was trying to find something to walk away with!

BUT I DID, I DID!!!

Accessories, shoes, panties, and bras!

Overall experience?

SCORE on the things I was looking for! Cute and comfortable flats, chonies, and bras and jewelry! I could not be happier- especially after saving over $65 due to a sale! I had no idea! Because I was on a mission, the lackluster customer service did NOT deter me, although I was irritated while shopping. I will chalk it up to this specific location, ONLY because I did find some really fabulous things!

Have you shopped at the Avenue? I have been more of a Jessica London and One Stop Plus fan, but let this be a lesson for ME! NEVER write off a place- ever! You’d think I would have learned my lesson with Lane Bryant from the Lane Bryant conference last year! How about me being pleasantly surprised?

What type of enabler would I be if I did NOT share with you a coupon code and link to shop your heart out! Especially with the wide width shoe selection!!!!

I also think it’s a store by store experience. I go to the Avenue in San Leandro, CA and the women there are awesome. There are some hard core fashionistas there and the customer service is great. A lot of times I have no clue about what outfits to put together and they always know what would look good on my body. The store is huge, well stocked in all the different sizes and bright and cheery. The displays are beautifully put together and accessorized well. Avenue is always my go to place to shop in person. The prices are just right and the clothing is beautiful.

I have been using that and love the word… chonies. LOL… for a while now. LOL

I live in my local Avenue…. half of my wardrobe comes from either my local store or online.

i totally feel you on the customer service thing… there have been times that the customer service has been HORRIBLE at a certain location, but then I will go to another one and it’s amazing.

Avenue’s bangles are my all time favorite.  I have a problem finding bracelets that fit over my hand, but never do I have that issue when I get them from Avenue.

Another agreement on the disorganization of the clearance racks.  But I have found that other people will get so frustrated about it and not even go through them, it leaves all the awesome finds for me (since I have a ton of patients to go through each rack)

Can’t wait to see you next week!

I have a few things from Avenue.  It is one of those stores that I like to “pre-shop” on the internet before I go in so I have an idea what I might be looking for.  As for Customer Service – it is definitely lacking at my local store.  In fact, this past Friday I walked out of the store without buying a thing since the manager burped 3 feet away from where I was shopping (after not being greeted despite an empty store), and not only didn’t say excuse me but her and the other sales associate laughed at how loud it was.

Ewww… not a burp! SMH. I like your idea of pre-shopping… lol I will take that into account for the next time I go shopping!!!

Thanks for the coupon code.  Funny either you can’t get help from the salespeople or they don’t leave you alone…I usually find no happy medium.

I have recently become a huge fan of Avenue in the past year. Prior to this time I always considered the clothes too mature for my taste. All that changed when one day like you I just decided to go in and scored some great sale items. I managed to buy skirts and dresses for prices as low as $9.99 super score! I also love that their wide width shoe selection has become more trendy. Avenue has definitely upped their spot on my shopping list.

Girls, give the Avenue another shot- they might blow your socks off!  I also wrote off the Avenue- literally 15 years ago because they had mostly “old lady” clothes that were boxy of and low quality.  I visited the Avenue after seeing one of their dresses on onestopplus.   Much to my surprise, I sashayed out of the Avenue with not one, but two new dresses (30% off dresses sale!).  I loathe dress shopping as I can hardly ever buy off the rack… well because of my rack!  When I say buy off the rack… that means buy a dress big enough to fit the bust then have it tailored down!  If you’re a lady that’s extra blessed in the chest- seriously check out their dresses.  The customer service at this Houston Avenue was phenomenal- again… much to my surprise.  They have plethora of sassy costume jewelry as demonstrated by Ms. Marie Denee.  Here’s a pic of the dress I bought!  Happy hunting ladies!

Just ordered those gladiators online for $20 using coupon code JLE3824
Somehow I missed theses. I had given up finding gladiators in a wide width. Glad I read this post.
