Barbie’s Cankles, Body Images, and her makeover

Wow. It is unbelievable and as a woman with thick ankles I am outraged. But I also have to laugh. How ridiculous. As a little girl I certainly thought I would grow up to look like Barbie and received quite a rude shock when I didn’t. I think that Barbie’s ridiculously bent feet always tipped me off to the unreal nature of her physique. I figured that if one lived in high heels maybe one’s feet would stay frozen in that same bent position. My own experience tells me that without deliberate intervention, little girls are vulnerable to Barbie’s unreal representation even before some ignorant shoe maker got involved. Today’s models are too thin and although for some of them it is natural it isn’t for all of them. Many of them look like concentration camp victims and of course some of them are only fifteen and haven’t even developed a womanly body yet. The fashion industry should be held accountable and a variety of female sizes should be represented. All models should have a healthy diet by law. That’s how it would be if I were Queen of the World.
