You Heard ME!
Well, at least Karl Lagerfeld thinks so.
Quoted for saying this very ugly comment was none other than the German famed designer, Karl Lagerfeld. In response to Germany’s fashion magazine Brigette banning professional models, due to an uproar from its readers, Lagerfeld lashed back.
According to Lagerfeld, “Curvy women have no place on the catwalk†and continued to show his disdain for the curvy woman by saying that, “No one wants to see curvy women,” both quotes from an interview with Focus Magazine.
But he wasn’t finished with showing his contempt with plus size women. According to the Guardian.co.uk, he continues to spew:
“These are fat mummies sitting with their bags of crisps in front of the television, saying that thin models are ugly,” and he continue to add that the world of fashion was all to do “with dreams and illusions, and no one wants to see round women.â€
What started this debacle?
The Guardian reports that Brigitte’s editor, Andreas Lebert, said that after years of having to “fatten up” pictures of underweight models with Photoshop, the magazine would produce its first edition with non-professional models on 2 January. “We will show women who have their own identity, the 18-year-old A-level student, the company chairwoman, the musician, the footballer,” he said.
While extremely unfortunate, I find this debate to be colorful, coming from the man who had H&M remove their plus size collection because he did not want fat girls in his designs, I am not surprised. He is most noted for saying:
“What I really didn’t like was that certain fashion sizes were made bigger. What I created was fashion for slim, slender people. That was the original idea… Incomprehensible decisions made by the management have removed any desire I had to do something like that again.”
So for something like this to come out of his mouth, I am not surprised, while irritated, I am not going to let this ruin my fashionable existence. Thoughts ladies?
