No one wants to see curvy women

You Heard ME!

Well, at least Karl Lagerfeld thinks so.

Quoted for saying this very ugly comment was none other than the German famed designer, Karl Lagerfeld. In response to Germany’s fashion magazine Brigette banning professional models, due to an uproar from its readers, Lagerfeld lashed back.

According to Lagerfeld, “Curvy women have no place on the catwalk” and continued to show his disdain for the curvy woman by saying that, “No one wants to see curvy women,” both quotes from an interview with Focus Magazine.

But he wasn’t finished with showing his contempt with plus size women. According to the Guardian.co.uk, he continues to spew:

“These are fat mummies sitting with their bags of crisps in front of the television, saying that thin models are ugly,” and he continue to add that the world of fashion was all to do “with dreams and illusions, and no one wants to see round women.”

What started this debacle?

The Guardian reports that Brigitte’s editor, Andreas Lebert, said that after years of having to “fatten up” pictures of underweight models with Photoshop, the magazine would produce its first edition with non-professional models on 2 January. “We will show women who have their own identity, the 18-year-old A-level student, the company chairwoman, the musician, the footballer,” he said.

While extremely unfortunate, I find this debate to be colorful, coming from the man who had H&M remove their plus size collection because he did not want fat girls in his designs, I am not surprised. He is most noted for saying:

“What I really didn’t like was that certain fashion sizes were made bigger. What I created was fashion for slim, slender people. That was the original idea… Incomprehensible decisions made by the management have removed any desire I had to do something like that again.”

So for something like this to come out of his mouth, I am not surprised, while irritated, I am not going to let this ruin my fashionable existence. Thoughts ladies?

I love the Kaiser for his creativity, but you can’t take anything he says seriously. The bulk of his quotes are crazy. Besides every time he talks about a fat person this or a curvy person that, it just seems like self-hate.

Karl kills me. Does he think we’ve all forgotten that he used to be fat himself! Give me break. I agree that fashion is about fantasy. But the truth of the matter is that for all the haute couture we see, they must translate the costumes into garments that will ultimately make the lines commerically viable.

and in case you did forget, here’s a link to Karl’s “curvier” self he goes to extremes to hide:

It’s weird that such a strange looking man would have such an opinion of others. I guess the ego sees what it wants to see.

Thanks Karl! What’s next? You will not let black or latino women wear your designs, because you know when it comes to curves black and latino women have that covered hands down!

I always laugh how Karl shares what is deemed attractive for straight men.

I would like to say, I myself have lived in Germany, as well as other countries & traveled extensively throughout the world. I have seen many curvy, beautiful women in all colors, shapes, & sizes. This is what makes this such A beautiful planet. I might add, America has been the only country I have lived in that places so much judgement on being thin. We are all beautiful in so many different ways. We need to love one another for who we are, not our dress size.
It kills me to hear young girls cry because they dont look like the girls in their teen magazines. Life is to short to worry about such rubbish.

No one likes to see curvy women? Curvy does not necessarily equal fat. I guess that’s why Hallie Berry, Tyra Banks, and Oprah are unpopular – too many curves……..

Wow, I never knew that Karl used to be larger himself – something I’m going to look into! Actually, I think that his statements make a little more sense from a character study angle, after learing about his previous weight. Shame to take personal issues out on the world, however…

Ouch! Karl’s comments are nasty, but they made more sense to me when I saw the pictures of him when he was fat. He, like many of us, probably still has a lot of self-loathing around being overwieght, even though today he seems to have lost the weight and now looks a little gaunt. Our culture has bought into the “You can never be too rich or too thin” mentality, but BBWs are pushing back. We’re getting fit with exercise and Yoga, so that when we walk down the runway, we look fabulous!

Why worry about what that idiot says? His words say so much more about the kind person he is and what his problems are than about anything else. Men do not like women to be as skinny as runway models. Men like women in sexy clothes and their personal tastes vary from see through to skimpy to tight. I know so many curvy women who say, “I cant believe my husband/boyfriend thinks I should wear this”, referring to something they think they are too fat to wear.

With all my respect for Karl Lagerfeld, I think he does not like curvy women, because he is either Homosexual or asexual, that is why he cannot appreciate curvy women
