Delta to Bring Sexy Back, just not in plus size

Richard Tyler for DeltaDelta attempted to revamp their “look” of their flight attendants’ uniforms by commissioning designer Richard Tyler to design these new frocks. While chic they are, they forgot one thing, anything over a size 18!

According to Dexinger, “The Richard Tyler Collection for Delta, inspired by the era of glamorous air travel, includes a wide variety of pieces that are both fashionable and functional, including clothing, outerwear and accessories. The uniforms, which use the Delta color palette of navy blue and red, supplemented with gold, platinum and red accents, are designed to reflect timeless elegance.”

What makes these pieces so chic? The Richard Tyler Collection for Delta features blazers, blouses, pants, skirts, wrap dresses (including the signature “Red Dress” for flight attendants), peacoat, felt hat, silk scarves and pocket squares; and the men are getting this fabulous makeover too! Designs for Delta’s male attendants receive respectfully revamped blazers, regular and French Cuff dress shirts, reversible all-weather coat and a reversible black bucket hat.

Richard Tyler for Delta now that you understand the fabulosity being designed for Delta, you can understand it’s respectful frustration of the Curvy.Confident.Chic.flight attendants when they learned certain pieces were not to e available above a size 18.

USA Today reports that the “Northwest chapter of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA has filed a grievance with the world’s largest airline operator, asking it to offer the red dress up to size 28. The union hopes the grievance will go to mediation in August.”

Again, fashion and fat clash, but the difference now is that women are feeling more comfortable, confident, and secure in their curves and are fine with them and making it work! Trust that this will not go down quietly! Ladies, I would love your thoughts!

Keep it Curvy.Confident.Chic.

  • Big Gurls are Fashionable Too

I am excited by this but on the other hand why is it the desginers wait until later to add this on? Shouldn't our size be included in the beginning? This is my only gripe, any size someone should feel comfortable, designers need to see that an average woman is a size 12.

  • knitmeapony

It also bothers me that there seems to ONLY be a womens' uniform.

  • Assertive Wit

I don't think fashion and "fat" EVER clashed…some people just have no fashion sense or lose it once they gain some weight.

I was trying to understand if the issue was over the airline wardrobe not going over a size 18 or the designer not creating ANYTHING over a size 18.

  • Emily Ho Sandford

I agree. Plus size shouldn't be an afterthought, ever.

  • MarieDenee

@assertive wit It seems as if the issue is with nothing but the old uniforms being available in a size 18+. We shall see how this plays out!

@knitmeapony, there are mens uniforms. The mens ' looks are posted in the intro paragraph.

I wanted to be a flight attendant and soon found my future employment plans crushed by physical requirements. MOST airlines require that you be height/weight proportionate. Due to discrimination laws, airlines have become more accepting, but I am curious how many 18+ flight attendants there are. I think we should be focusing on the safety of the passengers, the health and strength of the flight attendant to aid in safety and evacuation, and their ability to do there jobs well in a very cramped space for long periods of time, not weather or not a UNIFORM looks good on them. If I need help, I really don’t care who’s wearing what or what size they are. Sorry if my opinion seems less than chic, but fashion and safety in the work place walk hand in hand and always have. As long as the 18+’s are comfortable in their duds and can get the job done what’s the problem?

this sux. i wonder if they make their plus sized attendants use two seats as well. :(

  • SoHo Accessories

That a flight attendant can be over a size 2 is a plus…no pun intended !
We should be sensitive to all people…but I guess that is a lesson that doesn't happen overnight.
