While perusing around Twitter, I stumbled amongst the most amazing profile. You see, as I blog form the Curvy.Confident.Chic. (stressing Confident here) I do my best to bring you fashions and perspectives from a fashion forward contemporary view. So, whenever I find another Curvy sister shouting and enveloping the same message- with a twist, I feel it is my duty to share!!
Imagine my surprise when I found the lovely ladies of The Fat Girl’s Guide! I quickly hopped over to their site, and all I could is smile! You see, the three lovely ladies who make up The Fat Girl’s Guide do not come from a fashion perspective, but from a LOVE WHO YOU ARE perspective! To me, their site is like Chicken Soup for the Fat Girl’s Soul… (I think I am onto something there)
Toni and Tee of the Fat Girl’s Guide, on Twitter, are getting it!
What I love even more, is what they define what their site is NOT! Ripped straight from The Fat Girl’s Guide:
What FGG is NOT:
1. A “fat-lovers†club or fat acceptance movement. To the contrary, we know the health risks associated with being overweight and most of us are actively working to slim down and get healthy. But we’re also working on shedding the self- perception that we’re not already beautiful, important, fun, vital, vibrant, entirely adorable and lovable girls (women, chicks, females, babes, ladies…) just the way we are.
2. A diet, exercise or otherwise “cure for fat†web site. That market’s been covered and then some, and I’m sure everyone who reads here knows where to go to get that kind of advice. We’re here to put that aside for a little while and to help overweight women to enjoy who they are right now, even if they’re working on evolving into something else.
3. Politically correct. Sorry, I know the word fat is taboo in some circles, and I know that people are sometimes uncomfortable with it. But we’re here to be real, and we’re taking the it-is-what-it-is approach to describing our physical selves. It’s hard to live an authentic life if you’re hiding behind yourself, and if your self right now is fat, well, then you’ll fit right in here with the rest of us. So rather than be embarrassed by it, let’s have some fun with it.
We also use the word girl a lot, whether we’re referring to kids, teenagers, college students, wives, moms, seniors or anyone in between. Because in our experience, that stifled part of us that wants to come out and play usually very much wants to go by “girl,†even if we don’t admit it.
4. Skinny-chick haters. No way. Thin girls aren’t without their own negative self-perceptions, either, and we’re all in this together. This web site happens to be for those of us with fat-related body image issues, but if you’re 120 lbs soaking wet and you “feel fat,†or you find yourself here enjoying our content anyway, by all means join us. We’ll welcome you with open (even if soft, sometimes jiggling) arms.
Out to define and share the perils and joys of living as a fat girl, The Fat Girl’s Guide gives life to you real, raw, and all with a lot of sass and appeal! If you get the chance, please hop on over there and read a little bit about it!
What do you think about spreading a little confidence?
Keep it Curvy.Confident.Chic.
