The Year of the Plus Size Curvy.Confident.Chic. Fashionista

email

Plus Size Fashionistas throughout the world (more specifically the U.S.) have been making strides and dispelling myths all throughout the Fashion industry. With the help of Curvy celebrities, such as the Queen (Queen Latifah), Jill Scott, Beth Ditto, Adele, and Jennifer Hudson, these ladies bring to the spotlight just how fashionable your Curves are.

These Curvy Ambassadors showcase to the world that you, a Curvy.Confident.Chic. Diva, have the right, authority, and panache just as much as the straight woman to don the finest and fiercest high end designers just like the designers we see in Vogue, Marie Claire, Glamour, and so on.

With these ambassadors gracing the red carpet every award season,

America and beyond become exposed to the fabulous world of Curves. Designers clamour, stylists feign, and fashions’ elite gawk at how fabulous these Curvy.Confident.Chic. Ambassadors attempt to redefine the perception of size and its beauty.

So, what does that mean for us plus size fashionistas?

Are we to hold our breath and hope that finally, the Fashion World hears our woes?

Well, with a little wishful thinking and fire under our voluptuous bums there is hope. With curves on the forefront, designers once thought crazy to cater are now burgeoning at the “seams.” These designers have emerged onto the fashion scene like no one else! With events like BET’s Rip the Runway section “Size Sexy” and Elena Miro opening in Fashion Week in Milan, these events have helped to launch a movement like one never seen before.

Alongside these plus size designers accompanies communities and events that showcase and place the spotlight on you, the Curvy Fashionista, to show that you can be just as fabulous, no longer relegated to cheap, shapeless, multi-colored Mumus!

If you do not believe me, continue reading as I highlight three Must Attend events that are happening THIS YEAR!

What are you doing June 26-28, 2009? Me? Well I am trying to get my Curvy.Confident.Chic. Plus size behind down to the Real Women Summit in Chicago!

Yes, the first annual summit dedicated to all things curvy! My good friend Catherine Schuller (you should know who she is!) sent me an amazing press release that I just HAVE to share with you.

First, let me explain to you what The Real Women Summit is. This event is all about YOU, the plus size woman in America. The Real Women Summit’s goal is to unite, strengthen, and revolutionize the plus size woman in America. Not a day passes when we hear or read something about losing weight, obesity, fat acceptance, and the lack of fashion options. No longer do you have to feel like an outcast! The Real Women Summit is here!

The Real Women Summit seeks to redefine society’s perception of beauty. With more than 60% of American women sizes 14 and above, the Real Women Summit vows “to stand up and take position as the average, real woman in America! The summit is an idea to bring plus size women of all ages, races and backgrounds together to strengthen each other in the struggle and revolutionize the acceptance of beauty in America!”
Rates for the summit include accommodations, fashion shows, discussion panel entry, and four workshop opportunities, with more to be announced. Rates range from $400 to $600, depending on the number of women lodging per room.
